On August 26, 2026, new volunteers and coordinators gathered for one of Fundación Corazones por la Vida’s monthly training sessions. Humanitarian service begins long before a team reaches a community, and this structured program prepares participants to work alongside medical professionals, social workers and field teams across the foundation’s causes and projects in Venezuela.

Training before every mission

The monthly program connects the foundation’s values with the realities of field service. Participants learn how an outreach is organized, how responsibilities are assigned and how to respond calmly when circumstances change. The goal is clear: every person representing the foundation must understand not only what to do, but how to do it safely and with respect.

WASH knowledge that protects health

Water, sanitation and hygiene — known as WASH — is one of the central components of the training. Volunteers review practical measures that help prevent illness, including hand hygiene, safe handling of water and supplies, sanitation practices and clear community guidance. These principles strengthen the medical and humanitarian work carried out during community health days, emergency responses and the distribution of hygiene kits.

The training also helps participants recognize the limits of their role. Volunteers learn when a situation requires the attention of a physician, social worker or coordinator, and how to make that referral without delay.

Dignity is part of the response

Working with vulnerable populations demands more than goodwill. The foundation’s social-work team teaches a dignity-first approach grounded in listening without judgment, confidentiality, informed consent, respectful language and the principle of doing no harm. Particular attention is given to the protection needs of children, older adults, people with disabilities and families affected by emergencies or displacement.

Volunteers are taught to avoid making promises they cannot keep, to protect personal information and to allow each person to participate in decisions that affect them. In this way, assistance becomes more than the delivery of an item or service: it becomes an encounter built on trust.

From the classroom to the community

For new volunteers, the session offers a first understanding of the foundation’s culture of service. For coordinators, it reinforces the responsibility to guide teams, organize materials, safeguard beneficiaries and document each activity with transparency. Together, these skills improve the quality and continuity of medical campaigns, WASH activities, emergency operations and community assistance projects.

Training is not treated as a one-time requirement. By repeating the program every month, Fundación Corazones por la Vida creates a shared standard for a growing network of people committed to serving Venezuela with discipline, empathy and accountability.
